Plant for the Planet

This month, the UN's Billion Tree Campaign, which was patronised by Wangari Maathai (founder of the Green Belt Movement) and Prince Albert II of Monaco, was placed into the hands of the Plant for the Planet Children's Initiative.

Some sceptics thought that this was the UN effectively dumping a project that was no longer getting publicity, but I want to say now that those sceptics were wrong.

Very wrong.

These are not just 'children' we're talking about here.  We're talking about our future and our salvation.  In the words of Wangari Maathai, they will do the best that they can.

Our children will inherit this planet sooner, rather than later, and they have the desire, the motivation, and the foresight to know that we need to stop talking and start acting.

Now.

As adults, we tend to get so tied up in discussing what the problem is, what the possible solutions are, what the outcomes of those solutions might be...

Children however just get on with it.

The confidence with which this young man, who is speaking in a second language, addresses one of the most influential organisations in the world is incredible.

I don't think anyone can doubt that he will achieve what he sets out to do.
